AZOPT is an ophthalmic suspension, which contains the active medicament called Brinzolamide. Mechanism of action of Azopt:

Carbonic anhydrase is an enzyme used in the synthesis of bicarbonate from carbonic acid. Brinzolamide inhibits the activity of carbonic anhydrase and decreases the production of bicarbonate. Bicarbonate is generally required for the production of aqueous humor. Due to decrease in the level of bicarbonate, the production of aqueous humor gets decreased and thereby its reduction inside the eyeball.


  • It is contraindicated in case, a patient has severe kidney disease and decreased liver function.
  • It is not prescribed for children under 18 years.
  • It is not recommended in a condition when there is a high level of chloride ions in the blood because it leads to high amount of acid production in the body.
  • If a patient is allergic to Azopt ophthalmic solution or its other ingredients.

How this medicine can interact with other drug?

There are some medicines which show interaction with Azopt eye drops like Clotrimazole, Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Ritonavir and Aspirin.

What is the ideal method of administration of Azopt?

  • First of all, clean your hands with soap or antiseptic before using this medicine.
  • Remove the cap of the container and don't touch the tip of the container.
  • Then tilt your head in an upward direction and instill one drop in the affected eye.
  • The prescribed dose of Azopt is, one drop in the affected eye three times in a day depending on the severity of disease.
  • After application of eye drops close your eyes for at least 2 minutes.
  • Never rub your eyes after using this medicine.
  • To gain effective and quick result, always follow the dosing schedule.

How to store Azopt?

It should be kept at 4-25 °C. It should be kept away from moisture, heat and sunlight. Keep it away from children and pets. If the color of eye drops is changed, then reject this medicine.
