How Cyclosporine eye drops works?

Cyclosporine is thought to act locally in the eye as a partial modulator of the body's immune system. Tear production reduces when lymphocytes, a type of WBC present in the immune system, die and get accumulated in the tear glands. Cyclosporine reverses this state, enhancing the production of tears.

Under what conditions the use of Cyclosporine eye drops is contraindicated?

Avoid using Cyclosporine eye drops in following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to any ingredient in Cyclosporine ophthalmic solution.
  • Eye infection (herpes keratitis).
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Which other medications interact with Cyclosporine ophthalmic solution?

Topical anti-inflammatory drugs (for example, Ketorolac) should not be used along with Cyclosporine eye drops as these drugs may lower the potency of Cyclosporine.

What are the storage conditions of Cyclosporine ophthalmic solution?

Store this ophthalmic solution at room temperature below 30oC and away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this drug in a tightly closed container, and out of reach of children and pets. Throw away eye drop vial after each use.
