Mechanism of action of Neosporin eye ointment:

Neosporin eye ointment contains three active ingredients that are Bacitracin, neomycin, and Polymyxin B.  Neomycin is an amino glycoside antibiotic which acts on the ribosomal RNA and inhibits the bacterial protein synthesis. It acts against both gram negative and positive bacteria. Polymyxin B enhances the bacterial cell membrane permeability. It acts against gram negative bacteria Bacitracin interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis and effective against both gram positive and negative bacteria. These all antibiotics have bactericidal action and inhibit the growth of bacteria.

It is contraindicated in patients having hypersensitive reaction to this medicine or its ingredients.
