What is the mechanism of action of Mircette?

Mircette is an oral contraceptive having two active hormone known as Desogestrel and Ethinyl estradiol. It acts by inhibiting the  Gonadotrophins which primarily inhibits the release of egg from ovary. It prevents entry of sperm into uterus by increasing the viscosity of vaginal fluid by changing the amount mucus present in the uterus and cervix. The lining of the uterus gets changed to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.

  • If a female has undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding problem.

What is the correct Administration of Mircette?

Mircette pack contains 28 pills which include 26 hormonal pills and 2 non-hormonal pills. Start taking this medicine from the first day of your period. Take the one tablet of hormonal pills per day at the same time to get maximum result. It is advisable to take it at the bed time.

Sunday start: Take a first active hormonal pill orally with a glass of water on the first Sunday after the menstruation begins. One hormonal tablet white in color is taken daily for 21 days, followed by 1 light-green non hormonal tablet daily for 2 days and 1 yellow hormonal tablet daily for 5 days. After having the last pill, a female can immeditaely start with next dosing schedule with new Mircette pack.

What to do in case you take overdose of Mircette?

In case of over dose of this drug consult your doctor as soon as possible. The symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting and vaginal bleeding.

What are the side effects of Mircette?

The side effects produced while using this medicine are headache, irregular vaginal bleeding, weakness, irregular breathing, stomach pain, pain in the breast or tenderness, dizziness and loss of appetite.
